Feeding and food

Food items, feeding schedules, and bring-down plans in moult.

Food items

Food items are the prey and diet items you log against feeds and hunts, things like quail, chicks or mice. FalconryScale ships with a built-in list you can star as Favourites for quick access while logging, and you can add your own custom items with a name and an optional description. Built-in items can be starred but not edited; your own custom items can be edited or deleted.

Feeding schedule

Each raptor can have a feeding schedule: a set of time slots with an amount in grams, a food type, and an optional target weight for that feed. The schedule card shows the daily total and the next feed due.

If FalconryScale notices (from 7 days of data) that a bird is losing weight faster or gaining weight more than expected, it offers a feeding suggestion, increase or decrease the daily amount by a specific number of grams. Applying or dismissing the suggestion is one tap. Smart feeding suggestions are a Pro feature.

Moult mode feeding

Entering moult mode switches a bird's feeding schedule to a moult plan, which raises weight for feather growth instead of holding a flying weight.

Bring-down plans

When you end moult, FalconryScale can plan a bring-down: a gradual, safe return to flying weight instead of a sudden drop.

  1. Set a flying weight target, below the bird's current weight.
  2. Choose a timeline. FalconryScale enforces a minimum safe duration, since reducing weight faster than 1.5% of body weight per day risks the bird's health.
  3. Review the schedule, a day-by-day plan showing the daily reduction in grams and percentage.

Monitor the bird closely during a bring-down, and adjust the plan if it shows signs of stress or lethargy.
