Pairs and clutches
Track breeding pairs, clutches, egg outcomes and pedigree in FalconryScale.
Rolling out
Breeding is rolling out gradually. If you don't see Breeding on your home screen or profile yet, it isn't on your account yet. Check back soon.
FalconryScale's breeding suite tracks pairs, their clutches, and every egg's outcome, then builds a pedigree automatically when a chick hatches.
Breeding needs Pro
Creating pairs, recording clutches and logging egg outcomes all need FalconryScale Pro. Everything you've already recorded stays fully readable on the Free plan, you only lose the ability to add new breeding records while Pro is lapsed.
Pro's breeding features include:
- Unlimited pairs and clutches
- Candling and hatch tracking
- Automatic three-generation pedigrees
- A health passport PDF for your vet
Creating a pair
From Breeding, tap New pair and choose a Sire and a Dam from your active birds. A bird that isn't active can't be paired. Picking a bird that's already in another active pair doesn't block you, but you'll see a warning that it's already paired. Cross-species pairs are allowed: FalconryScale doesn't enforce gender or species matching, since not every pairing is a straightforward match and not every bird's sex is known.
Give the pair a season (free text, like "2026") and any notes. A pair's status is Active, Paused or Retired. Retiring a pair keeps it and its clutch history visible, but blocks new clutches on it; an open clutch stays open until it's complete.
Recording a clutch
From a pair's page, tap Record clutch and set:
- Eggs: how many were laid (you can add more later, up to 12 per clutch)
- First egg laid
- Incubation started
- Expected hatch, prefilled from the dam's species incubation window, which you can adjust
Each egg starts as Laid. As you candle or check the clutch, set each egg's outcome: Fertile, Infertile, Died in shell, or Hatched. A hatched egg can be promoted into a tracked bird; every other outcome stays as clutch history.
The Timeline on a clutch shows the laying and incubation dates, the hatch window, and each egg's progress at a glance.
Adding a chick
When an egg hatches, tap Add chick on it. Give the chick a name, pick its species (defaulting to the dam's species, or your own pick for a hybrid clutch), its sex if known, hatch date, and any ring or microchip number. Saving adds the chick to your birds with every per-bird feature straight away: weights, health records, documents, and a pedigree.
Pedigree
A chick promoted from a clutch gets its Pedigree automatically, three generations, linked to its sire and dam. Tap any bird in the tree to explore its own line; a path bar brings you back. For a bird bred before you used the app, tap Add parents to backfill lineage by hand, even if it was bred elsewhere. You can also attach a breeder certificate to a pedigree, stored in Documents against that breeding record.
Season stats
The Breeding header strip totals eggs laid, how many were ever confirmed fertile, and how many hatched, across every clutch you own.
